Important things to know more about Rio7/30/2019 Rio Centro is adjacent to Lapa. These shiny odd CBD buildings strike as a sharp contrast to the reality Rio holds beyond the pleasant beachy hilly image for tourism. These buildings essentially decide people's lives. How much good do they actually do? Ñao sei. Mas there's always this constant juxtaposition: Where there's the rich, right by it, there's the poor. These are some things i think are really worth learning a little about when you go to Rio / 🇧🇷 Listed as keywords:
Marielle Franco. Movimento Negro. Mencragnoti. Petrobras scandal. Bolsonaro. Third Command (Tiercero Comando Puro). Red Command (Comando Vermelho). Crossfire. UPP. Oscar Niemeyer. Manguiera. & of course - Carioca. Rocinha7/28/2019 I really felt at home going around Rocinha. I enjoyed seeing the neighborhood in its raw form. It completely erased any preconceptions Brought me insight & empathy. Rocinha is the biggest favela in Rio. Not that there aren't problems, but things have been peaceful. There are the typical social problems, teen pregnancy & single parenthood being a common one. Like visiting any city, there are Rules & Etiquettes for visiting a favela: →Always have someone you know from the favela to show you in. → Most things require permission from local authority /agrency, e.g. the 3rd or Red Command etc. Here, go through @ Lereupaim. E.g. if you want to shoot a film about something, ask the local leader for approval first. → Make sure you're accompanied by someone from the favela. Never stumble in alone. You could be misconceived as a trafficker from outside & be targeted. → Don't snap photos of anything you see. This is where people go about their daily lives, let's not poke a camera at everything, it can feel intrusive to the locals. → Some now find the word Favela not so politically correct anymore as it has been carrying a negative image of what favela really is about. These people may prefer the word "#comunidade", which is indeed what it is. It's all so beautiful - The way people put together a community all by their own resources, live closely together & make their own community work. It's amazing how each favela functions in their close-knit ways & organise things to make it all work day in day out, postal delivery & garbage collection for instance. It's really good to see people doing things for each other. For example a famous Tio built a park all on his own in front of his house, to let children play there. He also has his own radio broadcast in the favela, installed over 50 different speakers in the neighborhood to remind people of what good and wise things they should do to make life in the favela better & healthier. An amazing human being I met @ Selina stayed in the Maré favela for 3 weeks & volunteered his time & labor to build a skate park for children to play there. 💞I just love that💗 Recoleta Cemeteria, Buenos Aires7/27/2019 These statues are gorgeous & so well carved, 𝕽𝖊𝖈𝖔𝖑𝖊𝖙𝖆 𝕮𝖊𝖒𝖊𝖙𝖊𝖗𝖞 𝖎𝖘 𝖁𝖊𝖗𝖞 𝕻𝖗𝖊𝖙𝖙𝖞 It's a pretty odd thing to say. But it really is lovely. No wonder stone Masons were a big deal. These can commemorate people for a long time. Though I couldn't help but think while looking at each "What vanity. It's better to decompose in soil." As some were coffins lying in locked chambers. Gross. You can find Eva Peron's easily if you just spot the crowd and one with flowers.
Others don't get flowers. Shows your life's worth when you care about people. And No--- she's not buried with Peron. Dude remarried. El Caminito, Buenos Aires7/17/2019 It may be generalising to say that it is the poor that put a lot of colors on their houses but It's really kinda true in the Americas especially e.g. here with the contrast of wealthier plain looking neighborhoods like Palermo to La Boca. Same in Valparaiso same in Rio The rich whitewash their buildings made of stones The architecture has more design more texture The poor only has simple materials So they add vibrancy to their homes by bringing colors to the barrio on the exterior surface And it obviously always is quite an attraction. This is also the area where Tango was born. Being right by the water, Porteños would come here to the brothels or lived around here Used to be a no-no, slanderous thing to do. Men had to dance with each other Now it's a respected art form. Peace brings appreciation of art
It is in times of unrest that art is punished for. But the brothel element will always be a part of the history of Tango, it's where it's originated from. Last evening at Santiago de Chile7/16/2019 Everything makes great sense, so modern, so fast, so efficient. No wonder Santiago's developed so nicely. It's definitely a city for the people. With an open policy for immigration, I love all the visible diversity here. Very impressed. Love the public transport infrastructure.
Loved the free concert on the plaza. Hands down coming back to 🇨🇱 for the North. Dogs in Valparaiso7/13/2019 It's nice to see people all seem to be feeding the street dogs here Becaues there are dog food bowls right on the streets. it's clear that they don't go hungry. I've not seen a skin-and-bones dog on the streets. In fact, some of the dogs here all look obese ! There is no animal rescue or control system here Which leaves the dogs roaming free & live freely. Valparaiso, Chile7/9/2019 𝙄𝙩'𝙨 𝙖𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙖𝙣 𝙚𝙮𝙚𝙛𝙪𝙡 𝙤𝙣 𝙑𝙖𝙡𝙥𝙨𝙤 𝙘𝙚𝙧𝙧𝙤𝙨 & 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙩𝙨. Being an artistic center of the country, even if you skip all the murals, you'll still see a mix of colors. Murals are one of my favourite things about Centro & Sud America. They sure take up lots of memory card space on the camera. I never stop being amazed by the artistry of the street murals. Eva Peron’s House7/4/2019 We finally visited Eva Peron’s casa. The woman of all women.
She made movies and lived a life like a movie. She fought with all her might, did everything a woman could to make her way up to the top, in order to fight for the cause she believed in - to build social welfare for the underclass. Born of the humblest of humble origins, she won the hearts of a nation with her beauty and her resolve. Playing only female leadership roles in films, which projected Eva's ambition through these strong female characters. Having fell in love with Peron, who lost his first wife when they met, he consoled her and swore to love her eternally, for he saw all that she had worked for up to now was due to all her suffering Peron took Eva in as his pupil, loved her and invested in her, with hope to create his other self. Sweeping through Europe on a grand tour, Eva gained favors and built great trade relations with Spain and visited many social work organisations - Earning the medal of the greatest honor in Spain. She fell ill half way through the trip though. Later on, despite having entered candidancy for the role of Vice President, for political pressure from anti-Peron parties & her declining health, 1 year after her denouncement of her candidancy María Eva Duarte left the earth and became immortal forever in the hearts of Porteños. So many people lined up the streets waiting in the wintry July rain to kiss her coffin. Life was hard for little Evita But she lived hard, and loved whole-heartedly & grew to be the most adored woman in Argentina, for all that she campaigned for & gave her Life to. She is definitely The woman of her generation. The most woman of women of an era. @EmmaRyokouFind me on: Archives
